How Pest Control Companies Prepare for Peak Summer Season

Every spring, we say the same thing: “This year, we’re going to be ready.”

And yet, somehow, by mid-June, it’s the same chaos. Phones ringing nonstop. A last-minute termite job across town. Someone left the ladder in the wrong truck. The heat? Don’t even ask.

If you’re in pest control, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Summer hits different. And it doesn’t care if you’re prepared or not.

But over the years, we’ve learned a few things that help. Here’s how we actually do it.

Ready for Pest Season? Start Now

Every year we tell ourselves, “Let’s get ahead.” Only once did we actually pull it off.

Starting early isn’t a nice idea. It’s the only way. We kick things off in May, but June’s not too late. Check last year’s notes, talk to the team, and get ahead before things get busy. We pull last year’s service logs, talk to the team, check for patterns. Carpenter ants here. 34 Mosquito spikes there. We mark those areas.

We used to mark a paper map. Now we just tap spots on FieldPie’s map. Same idea, just easier. Emails and updates? All from the phone.

Train Pest Techs Before It’s Too Late

Summer separates the experienced from the overwhelmed. That includes your newest technician who just got his license and thinks wearing long sleeves in July is optional.

We do refresher sessions. Casual stuff. I’ll pull the crew aside, share what went wrong last summer, laugh about the raccoon call from hell, and remind them how dehydration sneaks up on you.

We teach our guys what not to do. That saves more time than any product training ever could.

Flexible Pest Control Scheduling

One of our worst summers was the one where we tried to be perfect.

We mapped every day, every stop, to the minute. Looked great on paper, until real life stepped in. Emergency calls. Flat tires. Mrs. Hughes booked a wasp job but forgot to mention the attic was crawling with something else entirely.

Now we leave room. We use a tool called Fieldpie to shuffle things in real time when the plan blows up. Scheduling is much easier than it used to be.

Pest Supplies You’ll Regret Forgetting

Nothing stops momentum like realizing you’re out of wasp spray at 10 a.m. on a 95-degree day.

We stock early and often. There’s a running list in the truck. Every tech checks their kit before leaving. We bulk order anything that runs out fast in summer: traps, repellents, gloves, even snacks.

If it fits in a bin and keeps the day moving, we’re keeping it close.

Talk to Clients Before the Bugs Do

The best pest control strategy for summer? Stay top-of-mind.

We send out a short email in May, nothing flashy. “Hey, summer pests are on the move. Want to beat the rush?” That’s it. Sometimes we toss in a tip or a small offer. Either way, people appreciate the heads-up.

It’s not about selling. It’s about being the first name they think of when something starts buzzing.

Pest Lessons You Shouldn’t Ignore

Summer always teaches you something. You just have to listen.

Maybe it’s a product that didn’t work in high humidity. Maybe it’s that certain techs are better in the morning before the heat. Maybe you realize scheduling two attic jobs back-to-back in July was a terrible idea.

Take notes. Scribble them somewhere. Look at them next spring. That’s how you actually grow.

Surviving Pest Season, Smarter

This is just what’s worked for us. A small team, tired of scrambling, finally figuring out how to breathe during the busiest time of the year.

Start early. Train honestly. Leave room to mess up. And remember: the ants don’t care about your plan. So have a backup for your backup.

All these suggestions, combined with FieldPie, will make your operations easier and more efficient.
